Madrid
Spain’s capital has a lot to offer, whether you’re looking for authentic cuisine or wanting to see the works of Picasso, Miró, Dalí, or other Spanish masters.
Insider’s tip: Be sure to visit El Rastro in Madrid or simply "El Rastro", an outdoor market which is organized on Sundays and holidays in the historical centre of Madrid, in which you will find every imaginable item.
Fun things to do:
Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas - It is the largest bullring in the world. While several bullfights are held throughout the year (on foot, on horse and bullfights with young bulls), the biggest annual event for fans and neophytes takes place during the Feria de San Isidro. Another great moment is the Septembrian Autumn Fair.
The national museum, or Museo Nacional del Prado contains some of the greatest works in Europe.
Fans of more contemporary work will love the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, which is also free on weekends and within walking distance of El Prado.
For relaxing and enjoying the outdoors, try Parque del Buen Retiro, a beautiful urban park that hosts free concerts, book fairs, puppet shows, along with various street performers and fortune tellers.
