The Riverside Company, a global investment firm focused on the smaller end of the middle market, has invested in CSB Nutrition (CSB), a contract developer and manufacturer (CDMO) of vitamin, mineral, herbal and dietary supplements. This investment is the latest add-on to the firm’s portfolio company, Western Botanicals (WB), a leading developer and manufacturer of vitamins, minerals and supplements (VMS) and a trusted partner for health and wellness brands.

Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Spanish Fork, Utah, CSB is a premier, full-service VMS CDMO. CSB crafts products to enhance the well-being of individuals and families who depend on VMS products to support their health. Today, the company serves some of the industry’s largest and most respected VMS brands worldwide.

“Consumers across all demographics are searching for innovative products that enable them to live longer, healthier and more active lives,” said Principal in Riverside’s Capital Appreciation strategy (RCAF) Harrison Petts. “Together, WB and CSB are well-positioned to help our customers bring efficacious VMS products to market.”
This investment aligns with Riverside’s health, longevity and flavor investment thesis, which focuses on businesses benefiting from long-term demographic, wellness and innovation trends. The firm has completed more than 40 platform investments in this specialization and has built a network of global experts dedicated to growing these types of organizations.

“With CSB Nutrition, Yellow Emperor and WB Blends now under one platform, we can more wholistically support our customers across major dosage forms – capsules, powders and liquids – all in one place,” said CEO of WB Blends Don Shaver. “We strive to be a partner and one-stop-shop for VMS brands, and it's what we're built to deliver.”

The collaboration significantly expands WB’s capsule and powder expertise, packaging forms (including stick packs and gusseted bags) and capacity. CSB is well-known in the industry for its strong R&D, new product development and quality – capabilities that further strengthen the combined company’s ability to serve customers with greater innovation, scale and reliability.

Working with Petts on the deal for Riverside were Co-Chief Investment Officer Brad Roberts, Senior Associate Armando Torres, Associate Love Patel and Senior Partner, Capital Markets, Anne Hayes. William Hood & Co. served as exclusive financial advisor to CSB.
